Nonington, often spelt Nonnington, is a rural parish in East Kent. It lies some two miles or so to the north-east of the A2 approximately mid-way between Dover and Canterbury.

This has changed over the past few decades because of the dramatic advances in digital imaging technologies and computer power. One of the best examples of this was the computer artistry of Ray Downing, whose digital re-creation of Jesus based on the Shroud was documented in “The Real Face of Jesus” program that appeared on the History Channel. In the past few years, digital artists around the world have been able to render their own interpretations of how Jesus may have appeared based on the Shroud and these show up from time to time on the internet.

However, throughout all those years, not one artist has attempted to create an interpretation of what Mary, Mother of Jesus looked like based on the Shroud image. Until now, that is. In July of my good friends Bill and Belenna Lauto directed me to the website of digital artist Dean Packwood in Taupo, New Zealand and shared his beautiful, photorealistic rendition of Mary, Mother of Jesus with me. Dean chose the Shroud of Turin image as the structural basis for his truly beautiful, completely digital artwork and I wanted to share it with you.

So I sent Dean a request for permission to include his painting here on our website and he graciously agreed to share it with us.

They can find support and encouragement from others in the demanding profession, or they can research new ways to bring tablets and web tools into their classrooms. Even though there are some limitations on teachers interacting with their students on social media, Twitter is still a powerful tool for educators to share tips, suggestions and ideas.

We hope that what you read and see will make you want to know more. The school is based on two sites: Our upper school site is situated in the heart of Langley Village in a building dating back to the s. The school opened in September I made the proposal to open the school because there is a real need in the area for additional primary school places and because I believe that the vision and ethos I have for the school will make a positive impact on the education that local children can receive.

At our school we focus on preparing children for life. We do this by employing teachers who make learning imaginative, creative and inspiring. This motivates children to want to learn.

The training is part of set of exercises called neuro-linguistic programming NLP which is designed to improve communication and patterns of behaviour. More than 1, teachers in England have received training in NLP through the Government’s fast track teaching programme. Hundreds of schools and local authorities also pay thousands of pounds for training by private consultants. Supporters of the techniques claim they can improve behaviour in the classroom and motivate children to learn.

Critics said, however, that NLP was a “bizarre mixture of pseudo science and new-age thinking” and yet another educational fad that diverted teachers’ attention away from good teaching. Frank Furedi, a sociology professor at Kent University and author of Wasted: Why Education Isn’t Educating, said: What NLP is saying is that teachers have to learn to take their cue from children, a complete reversal of the relationship where pupils take their cue from the teacher.

Its methods have been employed in a variety of professions, including sales, marketing, management, counselling and hypnotism. Despite its increasing use in mainstream education, its methods are controversial. Phil Beadle, a former Teacher of the Year and author of Could do Better, also cast doubt on the programme. Also, isn’t mirroring someone’s body language supposed to be a sign that you fancy them? It seems an ill-advised classroom strategy.

Messenger Teachers have a lot to put up with at the moment in terms of workload and stress. But what may come as a surprise to some is that, just like in the playground, bullying can be a big problem in the teaching world. Research shows that when a teacher is being bullied, the bully is often but not always the the head teacher — who is increasingly stressed and can sometimes take out their worries about Ofsted inspections on their staff.

All became ill as a result of being bullied — mostly with anxiety, stress and depression. The symptoms they described included palpitations, shaking uncontrollably, crying a lot, drinking too much, raised blood pressure, and taking multiple medications. We also heard about teachers who were getting so upset they were crying in their cupboards, while still on the job. This was due to an atmosphere of fear within their schools, and the extreme nervousness and stress it created for them.

One primary school teacher told us: People felt under pressure, I saw people crying in the corridors, people upset, it was a very difficult time. In another case, a teacher remembers being in a similar school where the headteacher was bullying staff: The school had a huge staff turnover, which always rings alarm bells. Every week there would be a member of staff crying in the stock cupboard, or sobbing in the corner of the staff room.
